VI Systems GmbH (VIS), founded in 2006, is a fabless developer and producer of ultrafast cost-effective optoelectronic components for short reach optical interconnects. The products have been developed to transmit data over optical fiber or planar waveguides.
The continuous increase in data transmission rates require new ultrahigh-speed components which can operate beyond the existing optical standard of 10 Gbit/s data rate. VI Systems' unique selling point is based on a combination of its revolutionary concept of advanced designs for vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL), ultrafast photodetectors (PIN PD) and high speed ICs which are mounted on a micro-subassembly. The patented EOM DBR (electro optical modulated -distributed Bragg reflector) VCSEL technology is suitable for the use at the traditional wavelength for short reach products of 850nm but also in the 1300-1600 nm range which allow data transmission over longer distance, for example in FTTX, metro, long reach LAN/SAN applications.
The technology is based on common semiconductor manufacturing process steps and can be scaled to high volume production. VIS works closely with the world leading foundry companies in the semiconductor industry.
